Sunday roast spots in Bristol and Bath
A delicious Sunday roast is always top on our list when we've got a flower free Sunday.
Nestled in-between Bath and Bristol we are always finding out about the latest spots in both beautiful cities to enjoy a Sunday lunch and try to treat ourselves to one every now and again.
Here are some of our favourite Sunday delights
Located on the Upper Bristol Road in Bath, this homely and rustic spot is always a favourable choice when we're looking for a Sunday treat. Open until 11pm on a Sunday it's a go-to place when we are looking for a later place to go if we've been out and about (usually at a flea market) during the day! Child-friendly, it's also a great spot to go if you've got any little ones accompanying you.
A unique and vibrant cafe/bar, this is a favourite place to venture when we are looking for a real Sunday treat. With quirky interiors which include typewriters and taxidermy it's no surprise it caught our eclectic eyes. Offering an intimate but informal setting the food is delicious and it was Winner of Best Sunday Roast 2017 at Foozie awards.
The Pony & Trap Located not far from our shop in Chew Magna, The Pony and Trap is an award winning restaurant offering a relaxing environment but with a focus on exceptional food. A country pub, it has been ran by the Eggleton family since 2006 who are well-known for their efforts within the food and hospitality industry with head chef Josh Eggleton also being the Co-Founder at Salt and Malt, Kensington Arms, Root and Yurt Lush, and the face behind one of Bristol's most celebrated food festivals, Eat Drink Bristol Fashion. Sourcing local ingredients and being sustainable is a focus of this family-run business who put a precedence on good quality food. They were awarded a Michelin star in 2011 which has been kept ever since and offer a Sunday Roast treat to truly enjoy.
Located in East Bristol on Church Road, The Lock Up is one of our favourite hidden gems we discovered and love to visit. Opened in 2016, it is independently ran and offers a relaxed atmosphere with incredible food and exceptional service. The Lock Up are known for offering a noteworthy menu which changes regularly with the seasons and only uses fresh and local ingredients. We had enjoyed evening dinners and drinks at The Lock Up for a while before trying their Sunday Roast for a special birthday and we were not disappointed. Family-run, the staff are incredibly friendly and dedicated to offering their customers a quality service and experience. Served from 12.30-5pm and always popular, we would recommend booking to avoid any disappointment.
Offering a more eclectic environment for your traditional Sunday Roast, Bocabar has always been favourite place of ours to venture. Located in a redbrick warehouse on Bath Road in the creative hub of Paintworks, it is a short drive from our shop but out of the bustle of the city centre. Its decor offers an abundance of character from vintage tassels lamps to unique artwork for sale and interesting artefacts. Having been trading for 15 years, Bocabar is an independent establishment which is important to us to support. Offering locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, their Sunday Roast menu changes weekly and offers meat, fish and vegetarian options as well as alternative options and is served from 12.30-3.30pm.
Located near the canal in Bath, The Locksbrook Inn is a gastropub offering a relaxed environment and good quality food. It is owned The Bath Company who are also behind The Hare and Hounds, The Chequers, and The Marlborough Tavern, all of which are places we enjoy to visit. It's cosy and welcoming interiors feature flagstone flooring, wood burners, a pile of newspapers on a coffee table and vintage apple crates.
For us it is a home from home, but offers us the real treat of enjoying good food with a menu that is packed full of fresh ingredients and served with a friendly service. Their Sunday menu is served until 8pm on Sunday which is always a bonus when we are running late!
