The Newt is a country estate in Somerset with beautiful woodlands and gardens to enjoy.
The Georgian country home has been carefully renovated into a luxury hotel, spa and garden-to-table dining restaurant.
The estate itself is set in 30 acres with inspirational cultivated gardens, ancient woodland, wildlife an fresh produce in the most amazing kitchen garden we have seen!
On a very windy Tuesday we took the day to indulge in the tranquil offering and enjoyed a stroll through their walled Parabola concealing an apple tree maze, that is home to hundred of different apple varieties, sharing the stories behind each.
Over 3000 cyder apple trees are growing in the landscape and the team at The Newt have revived many orchards that thrived in the landscape 300 years ago.
We enjoyed wandering around the Kitchen Garden where all the food is grown for diners to enjoy in the restaurant, hotel and cafe before having our own lunch in the Garden Cafe.
The food served here is fresh, seasonal fare and led by what is growing in the gardens and offering a delicious vegetable-led menu.
Walking around the grounds we took inspiration from their planted landscape admiring the various flowers blooming and carefully designed landscapes.
What we had:
Charred Tromboncino squash, buffalo mozzarella, fermented chilli, nasturtium, tomato dressing with Slow-cooked pork belly, cyder apple sauce, crackling
Set buffalo cream, stewed fruits, toasted spelt
Our personal favourite was the on-masse soft purple grasses that rippled with grace in the wind and dark red cosmos.
Just an hour's drive from our floral home in Keynsham it's a wonderful day out to enjoy and we're already looking forward to another occasion when we can go back!
