What's on in our wild world

As creatives, we take inspiration from all over and we enjoy keeping our fingers on the pulse for everything in the world of arts, culture, food, music and travel. We like to share our wild world with those who have similar passions as us, or for those who just want to know a little more about our wild world.

Here in our journal space, we share some of the things we love, the experiences we remember and everything you need to feel inspired by our wild world. From reading about why Peonies are one of our favourite flowers, to hearing about a recent day out at a new local hotel, enjoy our stories here.

Experience a Beautiful Day at The Newt in Somerset: A Guide

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

Are you looking for a stunning destination to spend your day at in Somerset? Look no further than The Newt. This beautiful country estate in Somerset boasts a range of activities and sights from its well-kept gardens to exploratory woodlands to enjoy.

Start your day off with a visit to the estate's gardens. The gardens feature a range of flowers and plants, including apple orchards, cascading water features, and a variety of wildlife. Take a stroll through the gardens and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. With plenty of benches it has many opportunities for you to sit, stop and take in the natural landscape to admire.

You can stroll through their walled Parabola concealing an apple tree maze, that is home to hundred of different apple varieties, sharing the stories behind each. Over 3000 cyder apple trees are growing in the landscape and the team at The Newt have revived many orchards that thrived in the landscape 300 years ago.

After exploring the gardens, head to the estate's Cyder Bar. Here, you can sample a range of ciders, including those made on the estate itself. The bar also serves a range of snacks and light bites, perfect for a midday pick-me-up.

Before you leave, make sure you take a visit to the estate's farm shop. Here, you'll find a range of local produce that is made right there in the very grounds, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, cheeses, and more. Take some time to browse the shop and pick up a few items to take home with you - we always love to sample some of their wine and can't leave without a few bottles of the homegrown Cider!

We enjoyed wandering around the Kitchen Garden where all the food is grown for diners to enjoy in the restaurant, hotel and cafe before having our own lunch in the Garden Cafe.

The food served here is fresh, seasonal fare and led by what is growing in the gardens and offering a delicious vegetable-led menu.

Walking around the grounds you can take creative inspiration from their planted landscape admiring the various flowers blooming and carefully designed landscapes.

A personal favourite was the on-masse soft purple grasses that rippled with grace in the wind and dark red cosmos. The beauty of visiting The Newt is with each changing season you can enjoy different plant combinations and seasonal flowers in bloom each time you visit.

Just an hour's drive from our floral home in Keynsham it's a wonderful day out to enjoy and a place we enjoy to visit frequently to connect with nature.
