What's on in our wild world

As creatives, we take inspiration from all over and we enjoy keeping our fingers on the pulse for everything in the world of arts, culture, food, music and travel. We like to share our wild world with those who have similar passions as us, or for those who just want to know a little more about our wild world.

Here in our journal space, we share some of the things we love, the experiences we remember and everything you need to feel inspired by our wild world. From reading about why Peonies are one of our favourite flowers, to hearing about a recent day out at a new local hotel, enjoy our stories here.

A campaign which makes a difference

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

Here at wild about flowers we are passionate about supporting other creative businesses like ours. We are proud to be stockists of many independent brands all offering something unique and special to fill our diverse flower shop. Adding to our collection of bespoke products, we stock a number of greeting cards from some few favourite designers we have come to love.

The JUST A CARD campaign is something we are proud to support within our shop. The campaigns aims to encourage people from Designer/Makers and Independent Galleries and Shops by reinforcing the message that all purchases, however small, even 'just a card' are so vital to the prosperity and survival of small businesses.

When sourcing and selecting new brands to work with, there is much more that goes on behind the scenes than meets the eye. We are personally connected to each and every one of the brands that we stock. From knowing their story, supporting the traditional methods of craftsmanship they use and simply having a mutual respect and understanding for one another as small businesses.

KATIE LEAMON GREETING CARD COLLECTION

The campaign JUST A CARD came about when Artist & Designer Sarah Hamilton saw the quote "If everyone who'd complimented our beautiful gallery had bought 'just a card' we'd still be open" by store keepers who'd recently closed their gallery. This prompted a call to action! Designer/Makers and independent shops and galleries need a voice. People seldom realise the considerable costs involved in exhibiting at design shows or keeping a shop open. Stand fees, power, materials, wages etc need to be met before even a penny of profit can be realised. Running a shop is often a labour of love. Without dedication and passion, and crucially sales, it would be another boarded up eyesore.

When Sarah Hamilton set up JUST A CARD campaign three years ago it was with one key aim - to highlight how valued and vital every sale is to artists, designers and independent creative businesses and shops. We all know how incredibly hard people work, how much passion, dedication, blood, sweat and tears go into what we do. We need independent shops to thrive, not just for them but also for their community and all their suppliers.

“Supporting local businesses is crucial if we want to keep our High Streets alive and buzzing with independent, exciting and creative shops. Don’t just talk about it - do something about it - shop local and make a real difference.” - — PATRICIA VAN DEN AKKER, THE DESIGN TRUST

There are many reasons why you should choose to shop local and support independent businesses. These shops are at the heart of a diverse local economy, and we are lucky that within Keynsham this community is so well supported and valued by many.

In a digitally exploding world where messages can be instantly sent or received, we believe the traditional sentiment of sending something personable to someone will never grow old.

CHASE AND WONDER GREETING CARD

For us, flowers and cards go hand in hand. Sometimes when you just don't have the words, flowers can say it all, or when you do have something you want to say, a greeting card can be offer the perfect place to convey your thoughts and feelings in a space that works. We believe these small, but powerful moments of connection will stand the test of time. The thought and effort that goes into these purchases make them just that bit more meaningful.
